Hawaii GET Tax

State General Excise Tax (GET)

As the year 2022 is coming to a close we are in the process of preparing 1099’s and closing out Semi-annual and Annual GET reports for our clients. We charge for the GET filings as part of our service but it is optional if you want us to handle it. Some owners have CPAs that they have do it and or they do the filings themselves.

We file on line and have “verified practitioner” status with the State of Hawaii. Once filed, we share those forms to your portal for you to download or view. Each month we collect rent we withhold the 4.5% GET charge from your rental proceeds and we account for those funds on your monthly statement. We do it monthly so you don’t get one big hit when GET is due and you should have the same proceed amount each month if you don’t have any maintenance on your property that month. Then we pay the State based on your rental income. This is based on any proceeds you received from your rental unit. If you have a tenant reimburse you for parking or utilities then you are required to pay GET on those funds as well as rent income. This is before any charges like management fees or maintenance repairs.

We are not tax advisors or CPAs so please consult your tax attorney or tax expert before deciding on your course of action.
