Smoke alarms tend to start beeping in the middle of the night. These important safety devices should always be hooked up and working properly. If they are not you should let your landlord know as soon as possible.

Possible causes:

  1. Bad Battery
  2. Dust in the detector
  3. Bad Smoke Alarm
  4. Stored energy in the detector capacitor.

Fixes:

  1. Change the Battery
  2. Use compressed air to blow out the detector (compressed air in a can works well)
  3. Replace the smoke alarm.
  4. Unhook the smoke detector from the ceiling, remove the battery, press and hold the test button until you hear the beeping stop and keep it pressed for about 10 seconds longer. Hook the detector back up to the ceiling and connect the wires, replace the batteries. Press the test button to make sure it is working properly.

It is the responsibility of the tenant and the landlord to keep the home safe. Using Teamwork the home can remain safe.

ONE TEAM!
